International Competition

International Competition for the First Feature Films of Directors aims to attract fresh talent to the festival. Introduced for the first time by an Indian festival. the competition is open to debut filmmakers from all over the world. Films made within one calendar year from the date of upcoming festival can participate in this section and compete for cash awards amounting to USD 200.000.

This section also aims at discovering and honoring new talents in the field of direction and providing them a platform for networking with the entertainment industry.

Films for this section are selected by the Chairman of MAMI Mr. Shyam Benegal and the Festival Director Mr. Srinivasan Narayanan. They are advised in this process by a Selection Committee consisting of Programmers. film experts. a network of selectors and overseas advisors.

The winners from this section. in addition to the cash awards. will carry the prestigious Golden Gateway and Silver Gateway. named after the Mumbai city's iconic landmark GATEWAY OF INDIA.

Above the Cut

 
Above The Cut section shall screen First Feature Films of Directors which could not be accommodated in the International Competition for the First Films of Directors. Among the entries received for the International Competition. the Festival programming committee chooses the best 14 films for the Competition. From the remaining entries. the most impressive films are selected for the non-competitive section called Above The Cut.

World Cinema

World Cinema focuses on screening the best films from all over the world produced within one calendar year before the festival dates. These films are screened in a non-competitive format.

All awarding winning and critically acclaimed films screened in other Film Festivals are invited for this section. Commercially successful films and big productions from all countries are also invited for screening under this section. The aim is to bring to the Indian Film Industry professionals and viewers in general the latest global trends in film making.'

The films screened in this section are eligible for AUDIENCE CHOICE award (approximately US$ 20.000 and Silver Gateway) and MUMBAI YOUNG CRITICS award (Silver Gateway).

Chairman of MAMI Mr.Shyam Benegal. Trustees of MAMI and Festival Director Mr.Shrinivasan Narayanan invite films to participate in this section. They are advised by a panel of film experts. programmers and overseas advisors in selections

India Gold 2013

The India Gold 2013 is a competition section for the Indian feature fiction films. Films by Indian film makers made within one calendar year from the date of upcoming Festival can participate in this competition.

Films which have not been screened in India will only be considered for this competition. Film's participation at other international festivals outside India does not preclude entry into this section. However. preference would be given to world premieres. international premiers. Asian premiers and Indian premiers. in that order.

The aim of this competition is to showcase the best crop of the Indian films produced in India and provide them a platform for promotion internationally.

The competition will be judged by an all international jury of film technicians & professionals. Jury will award Golden Gateway trophy plus cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh for the Best Film and Silver Gateway trophy plus cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh for Second Best Film.

Films for this section are invited by the chairman of MAMI Mr. Shyam Benegal.

New Faces in Indian Cinema

New Faces in Indian Cinema is a non-competitive section which will screen First and Second Feature Films of the Indian directors and aims to provide a platform to young emerging Indian filmmakers.

Film India Worldwide

 
The Film India Worldwide section has been one of is part of the non-competitive main section of the festival World Cinema.

This section screens films by filmmakers of Indian origin and / or about the people of Indian origin living across the world, the films which showcase concerns of the community and the cultural cross roads they inhabit.

The feature length fiction films produced after November 1st, 2012 are invited from all over the world to participate in this non-competitive format.

The Real Reel

 
Mumbai Film Festival began screening of feature length documentaries in its 11th edition in a new section called The Real Reel which was part of the non-competitive main section of the festival World Cinema.

The aim of The Real Reel section is to showcase award winning and critically acclaimed feature length documentaries which carry strong opinions on issues concerning our social lives, human nature and many other topics.

The documentaries produced after November 1st, 2012 are invited from all over the world to participate in this non-competitive format.

Celebrate Age

Harmony Silvers Foundation proudly announces the second edition of "Celebrate Age". a Competition as part of the 13th Mumbai Film Festival.

"Celebrate Age" will showcase short fiction films. short documentaries. feature length fiction films and documentaries on the concerns. spice. fun and adventure of growing older.

The Best Film will get a cash award of Rs 50.000
The Second Prize winner will be awarded Rs 25.000

Dimensions Mumbai

Dimensions Mumbai. a short film competition open to young Mumbaikars below the age of 25 years. is a brain child of Mrs. Jaya Bachchan. Trustee of MAMI.

Dimensions Mumbai was introduced to mark the 10th Anniversary of MAMI. the idea was to provide a platform to young students and professionals to showcase their talent. Short films of less than five minutes duration made on any format depicting any aspect of life in Mumbai can participate in the competition.

While Dimensions Mumbai gives young filmmakers a chance to reach out to filmbuffs. it also offers audience new vistas to city which dreams and breathes cinema.

Retrospectives

 
The Retrospectives section presents the treasures from the past. It is nostalgia for the veterans to revisit these films and a process of learning and sheer pleasure of watching these masterpieces for the youngsters.
